Edito de la Revue VERRE - Décembre 2004. Vol 10, n°6

Edito [Version française ]

The International Commission on Glass was created in 1933 to promote international collaboration and to circulate information as widely as possible within the world of glass. One of the high points of its action is the International Congress on Glass, which takes place every third year.

Jean-Pierre Pagnac
General Manager
of the Institut du Verre

The XXth ICG was held in Kyoto, Japan, from 27 September till 1 October 2004. Organised by the Ceramic Society of Japan, it was a total success, from the organisation to the technical and technological content of its conferences via the poster presentations spread over five days.

Thirty years earlier, in 1974, The Xth ICG was also held in Kyoto in the same prestigious venue.

In 2007, the XXIst Congress will be organised by the Institut du Verre, the CRITT Matériaux Alsace and Montpellier University 2, at the Palais des Congrès in Strasbourg.

This 6th issue of the revue Verre, the last of 2004, outlines the activities of the ICG working groups.

The Institut du Verre organised a technical day on the theme of Legionnaire’s Disease and Cooling towers in Glass Manufacture on 15 October 2004 in Paris. It was a day rich in teachings for the fifty odd participants, all highly representative of French glass manufacturing.

From 8 to 10 November 2004, took place the Temps Forts des Verriers 2004 (2004 glasswork highlights) to coincide with the Düsseldorf Glasstec Fair, in partnership with Gaz de France and the Institut du Verre.

Conferences, Glasstec Fair visits and conviviality enabled seventy actors from the world of glass, to exchange ideas on common subjects such as CO2 emission quotas…

2004 is coming to an end with the close of budgets for 2005. The Institut du Verre will continue and develop its mission of service to glass workers and users in 2005. Don’t hesitate to contact us!

On behalf of all the team at the Institut du Verre and Prover, I wish you all the very best for 2005.
